Chinese camper trailer paradox

Chinese camper trailer paradoxWhy saving money on a camper can cost you in the end.

You have been saving up for years for the big one, the big trip around Australia. You have everything ready to go, the oil in the 4WD is changed, everything is packed in the brand new camper trailer and life is good. The dream has become reality.

You hit the road. The horizon is wide open, the engine is purring like a kitten as the state borders roll past. Then, suddenly, you realise something is wrong. The trailer is making a strange noise. You pull over to investigate.

“Probably just one of the safety chains,” you say as you get out, still smiling. Then you see it. Your dream has become a nightmare: the chassis is cracked. You aren’t smiling any more… – read the full article here

Very interesting article and I feel sorry for those people .
I have a Koala Camper which is 21 years old was made in Brisbane and they built the camper to suit my trailer. It took them about one week max to build and it has never had a problem ever in design or manufacturer. Just from age the insect screens need some repair work but that is not bad for a 21 year old Aussie Built unit.
It does not have all the bells and whistles but is a good old unit.
I just purchased a copy of Australia Camper Trailer July 2012 as I am going to look at a new unit down the track with the creature comforts .

    Razorback.

Im wanting to comment on the hard floor camper trailer design in particulr. Firslty, the average person cannot afford one of the Australian made campers, and for those who are only able to get away at school holidays it appears there’s not much option in the cheaper range, I think saying that ALL chinese manufacturers of campers trailers are inferior is stereotyping and with everything you purchase these days you need to do the background work on the manufacturer regarless of who made it.

    Hello Guild members.

I am about to purchase a Chinese made, Aussie fitted out, Hard Floor camper trailer.

Cost wise, it is significantly less than a comparable, proportedly fully fitted out, Australian made unit.

Can you please give me a reliable list of specs that I can refer to, to ensure that I don’t buy a lemon, compared to an Aussie made unit.

A prompt reply would be apprecited, because I intend to purchase on 3/5/2013.

    Thanks in anticipation.

Can you so called Aussie manufacturers and guild members please explain to the public why you are so insecure with your product? If an importer were to bag you like you to the imported product you would have them in court! I find your comments highly embarrassing and I’m glad I bought an import. As they say in sales, the quickest way to look like a tool is to bag another’s product………

    Stay classy

    Hi Guys,
To some extent I can see other people’s point when it comes to paying the dollars for a camper trailer. Chinese cheap imports are only as good as the time they take to fall apart. There’s an old saying, buy cheap buy twice. That being said a camper trailer for $45,000 and more is way over priced for what you get. Think new caravan with independent suspension for the same price and you wonder where the dollars go in a camper trailer.
Aussie made and supported is the only way to go if you want after sales service. Cub comes to mind as a company willing to stand behind their product.
    Cheers,
    Bill.
